A Study on the Foreskin and Circumcision of the Penis of Korean Male

Abstract
From May to July, 1971, a survey was conducted for the purpose of observing the incidence of anomaly of the foreskin, complicated disease due to phimosis and redundant prepuce, and the actual condition of circumcision with 3,302 men of physical examination for conscription in Seoul and Kyong Gi Do area.
Through the analysis of data thus collected, the following results were obtained:
1) Incidence of prepuceal anomalies which were found 90.4%.
Among the 90.4%, redundant prepuces were found in 2,789 cases with a rate of 84.5%, phimoses were 0.9%, and 166 cases with 5.0% of them have done circumcision.
2) Complications were found in 442 cases with a rate of 13.4%.
of 13.4$, a balano-posthitis was found 5.3% and the second was a condyloma acuminata with 3.0%.
By classification of the foreskin of the penis:
a) In normal and circumcised group, diseases were found in 1.6%.
b) In redundant prepuceal group, diseases were found in 15.0%.
c) In a group of phimosis, diseases were found in 60.0%.
As the result of comparison between the normal group with circumcised group and the abnormal group, a disease occurred more in the abnormal group than the normal and circumcised group.
3) In the observation of circumcision:
a) As for the age distribution of circumcised men, 19-21 years group with 50.6% was the highest proportion and the second was 22-24 years with 21.7%.
b) As for the time for circumcision, 59.0% had circumcised during their collegian life and 30.7% had done during high school days.
c) Among the circumcised men, 86.6% of them who have received the operation voluntarily and 13.4% was recommended to be operated by others.
Only 16.4% had no complication at all, but 83.6% had complication.
Balano-posthitis (38.5%) and condyloma acuminata (26.5%) were major complications among the cirumcised group.
d) As for the clinical utilization of 166 circumcised men, the major group with 74.7% had done the operation at general hospital of clinic, but 25.3% was ambiguous by whom they were operated.
